SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, is hosting the SharedBook Open API Challenge, a Web development contest to award the best extensions from third party applications to SharedBook in three different categories: social networking, photo sharing and desktop applications or collaborative online communities. Entries will be accepted through Sept. 30.
The SharedBook Open API Challenge http://www.sharedbook.com/apichallenge is open to extensions from any third party applications that flow their text, photographs or other content into SharedBook’s Reverse Publishing Platform for on-demand output.
SharedBook’s Open API enables the automatic flow of Web content into a structured book product that can be previewed and purchased immediately, or personalized further. This provides a means for Web sites to monetize archived materials and user-generated content and build brand awareness through the book’s pass along value.
Developers can build extensions to connect any Web site with content that could be useful in printed book format to SharedBook. This information might include branded content, statistical information or user-generated content, for example, which can be found on gardening, online dating, real estate, sports, travel, and weight loss sites, among others.
A panel of five will evaluate the entries based on their business utility, originality and technical elegance including Dion Almaer, Co-founder of Ajaxian.com, and Benny Schlesinger, Chief Technical Officer, Jacada, Ltd. (Nasdaq: JCDA).
“Our developers inspired this contest when they were able to show us a working example of the Blog2Print blog printing widget in a few days,” said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc. “We look forward to seeing what other types of connections the Web development community can build to SharedBook’s API quickly, and hope to review some concepts that we haven’t considered.”
Web developers have produced API wrappers and components connecting clients to SharedBook’s platform using Java, PHP and Python languages to date. Interested participants are welcome to use the source material available at http://www.sharedbook.com/dev/resources.html as a starting point.
Projects can be installed as plug-ins to existing online applications or implemented as standalone Web applications. There is no limitation to the number of submissions that an individual or a team can enter.
These are some more specific examples of the types of third party applications that could be integrated into SharedBook’s Reverse Publishing Platform by category:

These sorts of technologies are powered by advanced vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) wireless communications. By enabling cars to ?talk to each other? in real time, V2X technology could eliminate 80 % of crashes involving non-impaired drivers, and could drastically reduce U.S. road accident fatalities.
With NHTSA now heavily investing time and money into V2V advances and the majority of the automakers involving themselves in testing activities, we are likely to see a large scale government-OEM reorganisation of safety features.
Now is the time to align telematics and DSRC products and services with the new connected safety trends in the industry to ensure that offerings hit the market in-line with these revolutionary market adaptations.
?V2X for Auto Safety and Mobility USA 2012? (20-21 March 2012) will bring together automotive, DOT, NHTSA, tier 1 and supplier executives to share expert industry knowledge, strategies and business models and create the ideal environment for partnership opportunities and networking.
An independently researched program and a world renowned collection of over 30 expert speakers has been designed specifically to ensure businesses fully prepared for the emerging new-era of intelligent transport and connected vehicle.
The conference will offer the chance for partner relationships to initiate by bringing together industry fore-runners from GM, Toyota, Volvo, Kia, Denso, BMW, Delphi, US DOT, AASHTO, Chrysler and many more.

SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, enhanced the SharedBook Open API Challenge http://www.sharedbook.com/apichallenge today – offering the winners a 20 percent share of any books sold from their development efforts, and extending the entry deadline to Oct. 31. As an additional incentive, any developers that participate are now eligible to receive a 10 percent share of any book proceeds that result from their contest entry.
Using the SharedBook open application programming interface (API) http://www.sharedbook.com/dev, developers can flow content from any Web site – archived materials, database content, photographs and user-generated content, among other items – into a structured book product that can be purchased immediately, or personalized further.
The SharedBook Open API Challenge will award the best extensions from third party applications to SharedBook in three categories: 1) social networking, 2) photo sharing, and 3) desktop applications or collaborative online communities.
Base pricing for the API books is set at $ 19.95 for softcover and $ 27.95 for hardcover. Therefore, the winning developers will receive a minimum of $ 3.99 each time a book sells as a result of their development. Winners will also receive their choice of an OpenMoko Neo 1973 mobile phone, an 8GB iPhone? or $ 500.
“We realize that it takes time to create a working demo and we want to ensure that interested developers cannot lose by entering this contest,” said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc. “Any concept that reaches the working demo stage has the potential to become a full solution, which now entitles the developer to at least a 10 percent share of any books sold as a result of their efforts.”
A panel of five will evaluate the entries based on their business utility, originality and technical elegance including Dion Almaer, Co-founder of Ajaxian.com, and Benny Schlesinger, Chief Technical Officer, Jacada, Ltd. (Nasdaq: JCDA).

2012 is upon us, and yet most are treating computer security as though it were 1992. In spite of one high profile computer security breach after another, many people are still not employing even the most basic safeguards to protect their privacy and their data. Canadian information security firm Defence Intelligence has created the following seven computer security resolutions to help people protect their privacy, their data, and their wallets.
