17 Sep 10 CompuTest Uses REALbasic to Port Visual Basic Software to Mac OS X in Record Time

(PRWEB) November 9, 2004

“We were astounded at how fast and easy it was to port our Visual Basic product to the Mac with REALbasic,” expressed Greg Mitchell, a principal at CompuTest.

CompuTest, LLC offers Electronic Bluebook, a secure electronic test-taking program, to law schools. The product was originally built on the Windows platform using Microsoft Visual Basic. Due to the increase in the number of students using Mac OS X laptops, CompuTests’ client institutions requested a mac version of Electronic Bluebook.

In order to meet their clients’ request, CompuTest began researching what would be involved in creating a Mac version. With little experience operating Macs and no experience programming Macs, the programming team initially agreed to build a simplified version of Electronic Bluebook for the Mac platform, allowing two to three months for development.

Using REALbasic, CompuTest was able to deliver a beta version of Electronic Bluebook for the Mac in only 12 working days. In addition, they were able to incorporate the full functionality of the Windows version into the Mac version in this short timeframe.

The language similarities between the two environments made it possible to copy large amounts of code directly from Visual Basic to REALbasic for the Macintosh. For the small amounts of code that differed, it was quick and easy for the developers to learn the comparable code. CompuTest was able to efficiently port Electronic Bluebook to the Mac and impress their clients with the speed in which they accomplished the task and meet client requirements.

Greg Mitchell added, “REALbasic was wonderfully easy to learn and use because it is similar to and compatible with Visual Basic. It was a pleasant and much-appreciated surprise that cut our programming time drastically and helped us respond to client requests in record time.”

The case study is available online at: http://www.realsoftware.com/case_studies/computest/

About CompuTest

CompuTest LLC was founded to create and market software for use in settings where secure testing on computers is mandated. Founded by Greg Mitchell, a law professor, and Chris Bombardo, a law student, CompuTest provides cross-platform electronic testing solutions such as Electronic Bluebook. 15 Sep 10 WizData Systems, Conducts Survey Gauging the Continued Use of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0

Parsippany, NJ (PRWEB) April 19, 2009

WizData Systems, a microsoft Partner and leader in cutting-edge software development, is conducting an analytical survey aimed at assessing the continued use of the microsoft Visual Basic 6 as a development language. As of April 8th 2008 microsoft discontinued all technical support of VB 6 in favor of its’ successor Visual basic .NET.

WizData, along with colleagues in the industry have witnessed a sense of reluctance due to Microsoft’s lack of technical support for the decade old language that is deemed relatively obsolete. With the growing rift between those who support VB6 and those who are excited about VB.NET, WizData believes a more in-depth analysis of programmers’ and developers’ specific challenges needed to be addressed.

It is WizData Systems’ intent to not only gauge the level of usage of the outdated Visual Studio development environments, but also to further assess the reaction of software professionals to the process involved with implementing the newer .NET environment, and sentiments of microsoft’s position in the process of converting to .NET.

WizData’s media department has requested industry professionals to participate by taking 5 minutes to assist us in our research by taking the quick 15 question survey found here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Dh5NSum5Zx3w5xQoNLLpLQ_3d_3d.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. The results of this survey will ultimately be shared with Microsoft and made publically available for industry professionals.
