06 Feb 12 New Web Development Contest: SharedBook Offers Open API Challenge

New York (PRWEB) August 30, 2007

SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, is hosting the SharedBook Open API Challenge, a Web development contest to award the best extensions from third party applications to SharedBook in three different categories: social networking, photo sharing and desktop applications or collaborative online communities. Entries will be accepted through Sept. 30.

The SharedBook Open API Challenge http://www.sharedbook.com/apichallenge is open to extensions from any third party applications that flow their text, photographs or other content into SharedBook’s Reverse Publishing Platform for on-demand output.

SharedBook’s Open API enables the automatic flow of Web content into a structured book product that can be previewed and purchased immediately, or personalized further. This provides a means for Web sites to monetize archived materials and user-generated content and build brand awareness through the book’s pass along value.

Developers can build extensions to connect any Web site with content that could be useful in printed book format to SharedBook. This information might include branded content, statistical information or user-generated content, for example, which can be found on gardening, online dating, real estate, sports, travel, and weight loss sites, among others.

A panel of five will evaluate the entries based on their business utility, originality and technical elegance including Dion Almaer, Co-founder of Ajaxian.com, and Benny Schlesinger, Chief Technical Officer, Jacada, Ltd. (Nasdaq: JCDA).

“Our developers inspired this contest when they were able to show us a working example of the Blog2Print blog printing widget in a few days,” said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc. “We look forward to seeing what other types of connections the Web development community can build to SharedBook’s API quickly, and hope to review some concepts that we haven’t considered.”

Web developers have produced API wrappers and components connecting clients to SharedBook’s platform using Java, PHP and Python languages to date. Interested participants are welcome to use the source material available at http://www.sharedbook.com/dev/resources.html as a starting point.

Projects can be installed as plug-ins to existing online applications or implemented as standalone Web applications. There is no limitation to the number of submissions that an individual or a team can enter.

These are some more specific examples of the types of third party applications that could be integrated into SharedBook’s Reverse Publishing Platform by category:

05 Feb 12 SharedBook Enhances API Contest and Extends Entry Deadline to Oct. 31

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 3, 2007

SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, enhanced the SharedBook Open API Challenge http://www.sharedbook.com/apichallenge today – offering the winners a 20 percent share of any books sold from their development efforts, and extending the entry deadline to Oct. 31. As an additional incentive, any developers that participate are now eligible to receive a 10 percent share of any book proceeds that result from their contest entry.

Using the SharedBook open application programming interface (API) http://www.sharedbook.com/dev, developers can flow content from any Web site – archived materials, database content, photographs and user-generated content, among other items – into a structured book product that can be purchased immediately, or personalized further.

The SharedBook Open API Challenge will award the best extensions from third party applications to SharedBook in three categories: 1) social networking, 2) photo sharing, and 3) desktop applications or collaborative online communities.

Base pricing for the API books is set at $ 19.95 for softcover and $ 27.95 for hardcover. Therefore, the winning developers will receive a minimum of $ 3.99 each time a book sells as a result of their development. Winners will also receive their choice of an OpenMoko Neo 1973 mobile phone, an 8GB iPhone? or $ 500.

“We realize that it takes time to create a working demo and we want to ensure that interested developers cannot lose by entering this contest,” said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc. “Any concept that reaches the working demo stage has the potential to become a full solution, which now entitles the developer to at least a 10 percent share of any books sold as a result of their efforts.”

A panel of five will evaluate the entries based on their business utility, originality and technical elegance including Dion Almaer, Co-founder of Ajaxian.com, and Benny Schlesinger, Chief Technical Officer, Jacada, Ltd. (Nasdaq: JCDA).

30 Oct 11 ZK Wins IBM XPages Development Contest for Reusable Controls, Embed Excel Functionality into IBM Lotus Domino XPages Applications

London (PRWEB) September 07, 2011

ZK is pleased to announce that one of its developers Dennis Chen has been awarded as one of the three winners of the first ever ?XPages Development Contest? for his effort in seamlessly integrating ZK Spreadsheet into IBM Lotus Domino XPages. This contest was sponsored by IBM Business Partner We4IT and hosted at OpenNTF.org.

Participants were required to contribute re-usable XPages controls along with a well documented reference understandable and consumable by other developers, in particular, specifying design elements in which developers are to copy in order to utilize the controls in other applications. Reusable controls are often custom controls with parameters to configure them enabling them to be used in different contexts.

The contest attracted a total of 49 contestants contributing 54 custom controls and 10 library controls. Nominations were judged by several criteria including reusability, consumability, ?wow factor, completeness of solution and documentation, overall business value and originality.

Despite the competitiveness, ZK Spreadsheet and XPages? integration was proudly selected proving its value once again to the Java Community. In this ZK XPages project, ZK Spreadsheet and ZK Pivottable were integrated into XPages, providing extension libraries that can bridge XPages to ZK whilst essentially and effectively integrating the core of ZK into XPages? environment, providing developers an architecture with great extensibility easily integratable with any ZK components. ?This in turn is the greatest value coming out of this project; by integrating ZK Spreadsheet into XPages, users are now provided with more convenience, versatility, efficiency and more over, enhanced applications.? says Dennis Chen in an interview.

ZK Spreadsheet is an open source, embeddable web-based spreadsheet that delivers rich functionality of Excel within browsers using pure Java without the need to install Excel or applets on the server or client. With the ability to include Excel functionality in any web page, developers are able to create interactive, collaborative and dynamic enterprise applications at minimal cost. ZK Spreadsheet has become a mainstay in developer?s toolkits since its first release in February 2008 obtaining favourable reviews across the globe and deployed by various corporate financial institutions.

XPages is a rapid web and mobile application development platform based on JavaScript, JSF and a document orientated database. It allows IBM Lotus Notes data to be displayed to browser clients on all platforms and its applications are hosted by IBM Lotus Domino.
